Saltwater Fishing
After launching at my favorite trout location, Crooked River State Park, we ran to our first spot to kill an hour before the tide got right for our target for the day… trophy seatrout. My partners for this Father’s Day adventure were my father, Herb Deener of Waycross, and my brother-in-law, Ron Johnson of Viper,…
Georgia charter-boat captains and the businesses that rely on angler tourists got a temporary reprieve from federal regulations that could spell doom for bottom-fishing charters, but indications are that the federal government is intent on imposing regulations that would hammer the recreational saltwater fishing industry. At a June 10 meeting in Orlando, the South Atlantic…
At 10 years of age, I was introduced to saltwater fishing. I didn’t do anything all that sophisticated, just caught blue crabs, catfish, small sharks and whiting from the pier, bridges and beaches of Jekyll Island. We caught half of them on a 1/16-oz Mirage Jig tipped with a minnow and half on a 1/32-oz. Tennessee Shad Specktacular Jig worked slowly. Jamie Hodge fished the lower river on Sunday and caught a couple dozen really nice crappie up to 1-lb., 10-oz. He spider-rigged minnows for his fish. The river rose all week and is at the edge of the floodplain again. Satilla River: Blake Edwards fished with me on Thursday, Dec. 19, in the…
