Volunteers Improve Fish Habitat in Jekyll Island’s Public Saltwater Pond

Scattered along the Georgia coast are dozens of brackish ponds, both natural and man-made, that are fed saltwater and sea life through culverts and other connections to the tidal marshlands. Most are bordered by private property, making them off limits to the general public. One exception is the man-made 23-acre pond on Jekyll Island, which…

Party Boat Bottom Fishing From The Golden Isles

If you want to fish the Georgia coast in an offshore party boat, you usually head for the area around Savannah. There are multiple head boats or party boats located in the area, and they can all put you on the fish. But if you live farther south and don’t want to make the drive…

Sometimes Smaller Is Better For Inshore Fishing

This summer’s record-high fuel prices and associated rise in the cost of living are making life tough for anyone who uses a boat for business or recreation. Saltwater anglers are really feeling the pinch since, on average, the boats, engines and fuel tanks are larger. That’s why many coastal fishermen are looking at their small…

Altamaha River: A couple of Waycross anglers fished the river on Saturday and caught 21 bass up to 2.52 pounds. They had one straighten the hook that was in the 6-lb., range. They also had five bowfin up to 8 pounds. Okefenokee Swamp: The fishing effort has been almost zero again this week on the east side. The best reports were for catfish on the west side (at the Sill). Putting shrimp on the bottom produced the best catches. The fish are there and will bite, and the water level is good for getting around (but not too high). The most recent water level (Folkston side) was 121.15 feet. Dodge PFA (near Eastman): Milton Jones from the Eastman area had a good…
