Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

The reports were as varied as the weather this week. The best reports came from ponds and the Okefenokee Swamp. Saltwater was hit-and-miss. The southeast Georgia rivers are still high but are falling now that the leaves have budded out and the trees are pulling more water. St. Marys River: The Temple Landing is currently closed while the WRD boat ramp crew rebuilds the ramp. The ramp itself is complete, and the crew is working to improve the parking area. The project is winding down, and it should reopen in early April if weather and river levels cooperate (which they are currently not doing). Okefenokee Swamp: Mike and Matt Rouse fished the east side of the Okefenokee on Saturday in the cool, super-windy weather and still caught fish. They had a few warmouth and fliers on black sparkle/chartreuse Warmouth Whacker Jigs. They also caught a couple bowfin by flinging crawfish-brass…

Lake Eufaula is on fire this spring, and 4- to 6-pounders are feeding in grass right now, gorging on shad and bream. Some Eufaula bass are getting ready to move deeper, but May is a month when you can catch a lot of quality bass in shallow water. Tournament weights have been amazing for the…
Out of the gloom, a large, scaly creature materialized at the water surface in the transition zone where a bubble of light merged into clutching darkness. Suddenly, a heavy barbed projectile flashed through the thick, humid air, smacking into the beast. Water churned as it went through its death throes. Another very large carp met…
Fishing opportunities abound on Lake Eufaula, the big border impoundment on the Chattahoochee River that separates Georgia and Alabama. The lake has long been labeled the “big bass capital of the world.” Catfish also flourish and grow in size and abundance, and the bream fishing is seasonally great. Among all the possibilities, the crappie population…
Don Oates and Bruce Rucker, both of Lumpkin, made their first gator season a very difficult one to top. They killed an 11-foot, 5-inch beast from Lake Eufaula on Aug. 24. Their hunt started about 5 p.m. in the Florence Marina area where they spotted a gator 100 yards off the Georgia bank. “He went…
Think its too hot to catch shallow bass this month? It’s not if you go to Lake Eufaula. Not only can you catch bass in grass and pads, but you can dredge the famous Eufaula summer ledges and catch bass if that is what you prefer. No hindsight ip unit displayed. There are three good…
