Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

The reports were as varied as the weather this week. The best reports came from ponds and the Okefenokee Swamp. Saltwater was hit-and-miss. The southeast Georgia rivers are still high but are falling now that the leaves have budded out and the trees are pulling more water. St. Marys River: The Temple Landing is currently closed while the WRD boat ramp crew rebuilds the ramp. The ramp itself is complete, and the crew is working to improve the parking area. The project is winding down, and it should reopen in early April if weather and river levels cooperate (which they are currently not doing). Okefenokee Swamp: Mike and Matt Rouse fished the east side of the Okefenokee on Saturday in the cool, super-windy weather and still caught fish. They had a few warmouth and fliers on black sparkle/chartreuse Warmouth Whacker Jigs. They also caught a couple bowfin by flinging crawfish-brass…

Mark Fletcher, of Palmetto, tagged a monster gator from Georgia’s side of Lake Eufaula in the early hours of Monday morning, Sept. 21. Mark and fellow hunters knew there was a big gator in a specific area after a 12-footer was caught nearby that had a relatively fresh 10-inch bite mark on its tail. “We…
October is a great month for bass fishermen. Cooling water this month makes the bass start their fall migration following shad, and bass are more often than not feeding aggressively. Officially known as Walter F. George Reservoir, but typically called Lake Eufaula by anglers, this is one of the best lakes in the Southeast to…
The Georgia Bass Chapter Federation (GBCF) held this year’s Top Six Classic on March 25-26 at Lake Eufaula. Held under FLW’s The Bass Federation (TBF) program, the Top Six drew 222 anglers from 40 teams. The winning angler was Brad Colbert, who’s a regular with the Bryan County Bassmasters. Brad’s two-day Top Six weight was…
Understanding bass movement on a specific lake gives anglers a big advantage. It’s a foregone conclusion that largemouth bass move to the shallows to spawn when the water starts to warm back up. The next movement is a little harder to track, but postspawn bass can be real hungry after they’ve had time to rest…
Lake Eufaula is a legendary bass lake, and GON was fortunate to talk a legendary bass fisherman, Jackie Thompson, into revealing the best ways to catch bass on the lake right now. Jackie even marked a map with 10 late-fall, early winter hotspots to get you going for a good day of catching bass. Eufaula is…
