Lake Eufaula

Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

Southeast Georgia Fishing Reports With Capt. Bert Deener – March 28, 2025

By Capt. Bert Deener | March 28, 2025

The reports were as varied as the weather this week. The best reports came from ponds and the Okefenokee Swamp. Saltwater was hit-and-miss. The southeast Georgia rivers are still high but are falling now that the leaves have budded out and the trees are pulling more water. St. Marys River: The Temple Landing is currently closed while the WRD boat ramp crew rebuilds the ramp. The ramp itself is complete, and the crew is working to improve the parking area. The project is winding down, and it should reopen in early April if weather and river levels cooperate (which they are currently not doing). Okefenokee Swamp: Mike and Matt Rouse fished the east side of the Okefenokee on Saturday in the cool, super-windy weather and still caught fish. They had a few warmouth and fliers on black sparkle/chartreuse Warmouth Whacker Jigs. They also caught a couple bowfin by flinging crawfish-brass…

Eufaula’s Best Crappie Bite Comes After The Spawn

Call Tony Adams the antithesis of the typical crappie fisherman. Unlike many casual anglers who only pursue slabs for a limited period in the spring, Tony longs for the extended days and heat of the late spring and summer months. At that time, starting in late April and running through the remainder of the spring,…

Eufaula Bass From Bream Beds To Ledges

All spring we have enjoyed catching bass in shallow water, but June has anglers thinking deep on many lakes. Warming water makes bass head to the deeper summer structure and cover, and following the bass to deeper water is usually the best bet. However, a trip to Eufaula in June can offer the best of…

Fish Shallow Hydrilla For Eufaula’s Fall Bass

Jaci Skipper cast her Lew’s baitcaster reel loaded with an Ultra Vibe Speed Worm into a stiff 10-15 mph wind at Lake Eufaula. The worm zipped out as though it was being cast by a seasoned fishing pro. But Jaci is only 17 years old and a student at Rehobeth High School in Dothan, Ala.…
