Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

Eufaula: Level: 1.9 feet above 188. Temp: 67 degrees. Clarity: Perfect stain. Bass: Capt. Sam Williams, with Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “The lake level is holding steady, helping the fish acclimate to the winter pattern and shallow water feeding. The bass are working the shallow cover early and late. The forage fish are working the cover and making it easy feeding for the bass. Black lizards with blue tails on Texas rigs are really productive. Red and black stickbaits are the next best choice. Jigs tipped with creature baits in dark greens and blue/black are great, also. The deeper fish are eating larger, dark worms hooked up on Carolina rigs. The deep fish are on cover on the drops. You can locate them on your electronics. Look for the shad action. There has been a new hatch on the last full moon. These fish are good and healthy, and…

As part of the AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) program, a team of young adults ages 18 to 25 made…
Of all the outdoor experiences my mother, now 86, enjoyed the most, it was watching a cork disappear as a slab crappie grabbed the minnow at the end of the line. As is normal procedure, I check in on her every few days, and she wanted to know what I’d been doing. “Catching crappie,” I…
A Lake Eufaula alligator that was measured at 14-feet, 1.75-inches by WRD Technician Matt Skinner will likely set a new bar for Georgia’s state-record gator after paperwork goes through its normal process. The previous state-record hunter harvested Georgia gator came from in Lake Seminole in 2013. That gator measured 13-feet, 10.75 inches long and was caught by…
An earlier-than-normal deadline for alligator quota hunts highlights the beginning of the 2019-2020 hunting season for those who play the quota-hunt lottery game. WRD began accepting applications for all their quota hunts this morning, and a July 15 deadline for alligator quota hunts means it’s time to begin making plans. “Because quota hunts allow a…
Lake Eufaula is on fire this spring, and 4- to 6-pounders are feeding in grass right now, gorging on shad and bream. Some Eufaula bass are getting ready to move deeper, but May is a month when you can catch a lot of quality bass in shallow water. Tournament weights have been amazing for the…
