Bass Tournament Reports August 2005

GON Staff | August 6, 2005

July 17: Valley Sportsman, West Point

The fishing was pretty slow at the Valley Sportsman tournament at West Point.

Twenty-two boats decided they’d try to beat the heat and fish, and in the end it was Martie Murphy and Mike York who won with 15.46 pounds.

Second went to John Pearson and Trey Rhodes with 13.9 pounds.

The tournament concluded Valley’s season.

July 16: So. Bassin’, Sinclair

David and Pansy Millsaps are one of the hottest bass-fishing couples in the southeast. They had another impressive finish July 16 when they won the Southern Bassin’ Couples event at Sinclair.

David and Pansy, from Ball Ground, rank No. 5 in GON‘s Team Power Rankings. They would have shot up into third place, but this tournament only had 24 boats. In order to receive points in either of the lists, the tournament must have 30 or more boats.

A buzzbait produced early for David, and Pansy was able to add to the sack later in the day when she was throwing a crankbait.

“We also announced our winning couple of the year,” said Lillian Bryan, tournament director. “Tim Howell and Kimberly Millsaps were our anglers of the year, so they get to fish for free next year and they’re boat number one.”

Their Southern Bassin’ Couples Classic will be in mid October at West Point.
