GON Partner Receives Georgia 4-H Honors

Brad Gill | March 9, 2019

GON friend and 4-H volunteer extraordinaire Chris Sager recently received the GA 4-H Salute to Volunteer Excellence award.

Chris is the 4-H BB competition guru who makes the GON Youth Big-Buck Contest operate so smoothly. Chris sights in our Daisy 499B Champion rifle, handles our practice session and is even our official gun cocker during the Shoot-Out. After spending some time getting to know Chris, I can assure GON readers that he is more than deserving of this 4-H award.

“Chris is one of those people where the answer is always ‘yes,'” said Craven Hudson, University of Georgia Extension 4-H Specialist. “Any time an idea comes up, Chris is thinking of ways to make it happen that works in 4-H’ers best interest. Chris will assist in any part of the larger 4-H program if asked, and he was instrumental in expanding Georgia 4-H’s relationship with the outdoor industry this year during GON’s Outdoor Blast. It is always wonderful to have someone you know will come through every single time, and Chris Sagar is that person for Georgia 4-H.”

Chris has been involved with the 4-H Project SAFE program for more than 25 years where he currently serves as a range officer at the state level, while also attending summer camp annually with Forsyth County.

“Chris is a very dedicated Georgia 4-H Shooting Sports instructor for Georgia 4-H SAFE,” said Denny Kuhr, Fayette County 4-H volunteer and state shotgun instructor. “He has performed many hours of training to certify adult volunteers in the rifle discipline. Chris has also used his own personal funds to purchase materials that enhance the training. He frequently displays his enthusiasm and passion to the shooting sports and his interest in providing a quality education of our adult volunteers.”

If you’d like to get a real taste for what all goes into a 4-H BB competition, consider attending the 4-H State BB Match at Rock Eagle on May 4. The action starts at 8 a.m.
