Teacher Takes Students To School On Duck Box Building

GON Outdoor Kids April 2020

Blake Jeffers has done some great video work for GON, and he is also the agriculture teacher at Metter High School in Candler County. Blake has always been proactive in getting his students involved in outdoor education.

“This past week I took my classes out to our local industrial park, which gets heavily used by ducks and geese, and we replaced half a dozen duck boxes,” said Blake.

The duck box building project was a National FFA (Future Farmers of America) community service project for the students.

“I showed them how to do one, and the other five boxes were completely done by students,” said Blake. “We installed new shavings inside each, and our class is going to maintain them yearly. Students not installing duck boxes repaired and painted a broken walking bridge and picked up numerous bags of trash.”

Great job Blake and students!
