A host of Georgia 4-H shooting sports state championship teams took their skills to the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska in late June and posted impressive finishes. Georgia teams that qualified for the national event did so at their state championships at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton earlier in the spring. These teams faced off against other kids from all across the country.
The Bartow County 4-H squad had the highest-placing Georgia showing in the national competition as it finished third in the Small Bore Rifle Team competition. The team was made up of Emma Faye Howard (No. 3 individual), Paul Gordy (29) and Brendon Dunn (33).
Bartow County also had a fifth-place finish in the Air Rifle Team competition. The Bartow County Air Rifle team was made up of Lucy Evans (No. 11 individual), Will Altizer (29) and Harper Cole Eubanks (34).
The Bleckley County Shotgun Team finished fourth in the nation in the Shotgun Team competition. That team was made up of Rylee Little (No. 16 individual), Katie Thompson (18), Ben Howard (21) and Graham Campbell (25). There were 131 total kids competing in that category.
Banks County 4-H teams were the only Georgia archery teams to attend the nationals. The county’s recurve bow squad finished seventh overall. The recurve bow team was made up of Grant English (No. 4 individual), Emily Mainor (27) and Ryan Nelson (34).
The Banks County 4-H compound bow team finished 10th overall. That team was made up of Madison Adams (No. 28 individual), Tate Edwards (32), Reagen Ferguson (46) and Cody Ayers (57).
