Youth Waterfowl Hunts At Lake Russell

The deadline to apply for the random selection drawing is Dec. 13.

COE Communications | December 3, 2024

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District will host youth waterfowl hunts at the Richard B. Russell Project during the months of December and January for youth participants ages 9 to 16.

Hunters will be selected by random drawing, and those selected to participate will be contacted with tentative hunt dates. All hunters must register before close of business Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, by emailing Natural Resources Specialist Chris Nelson at [email protected] or calling 706.213.3408.

Youth hunters must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 18 years of age. The parent or guardian will be permitted to hunt along with the youth hunter. All hunters must check in at the lake project office located at 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, GA, and all must be licensed in accordance with existing Georgia Hunting Regulations, including the Migratory Bird Hunting License and have state and federal waterfowl stamps. All state regulations and bag limits will be strictly enforced.

“The Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp is required for all migratory bird hunters (doves, ducks, geese, woodcock, snipe, coots, rails, or gallinules) who are 16 and older, even if a hunting license is not required,” according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division, website. “This stamp is how Georgia participates in the federal Harvest Information Program (HIP), and hunters must obtain a new Georgia Migratory Bird Stamp each season. A Federal Duck Stamp ($29) is still required if hunting duck and geese for hunters ages 16 and older.”
