Ocmulgee River

The Ocmulgee River flows from the Lake Jackson dam, creating a tailwater fishery that includes shoal bass. The flow meanders through the city of Macon and ultimately joins the Oconee River 241 miles downstream from Jackson, where the two rivers form the Altamaha River near Lumber City. The lower stretch of the Ocmulgee is known for big catfish and good bass fishing.

Ocmulgee River Fishing Above Macon

Fall fishing can be fun and productive, but this year the climate has been throwing us some curves with unusually dry and warm weather. The bite is picking up significantly in many places with the cooler weather. The Ocmulgee and Altamaha rivers are in good shape, so give them a try while they are right. The rivers are back to full bank or in the floodplains for the most part. The exception is the St Marys River. It’s very fishable. Not as many people reported this week as compared to the holiday weekend, but there were still a lot of folks fishing. The rivers are getting back in decent shape again, and I expect to get some excellent reports this week. Alapaha River: Take note that the Highway 129 bridge boat ramp (near Lakeland) closed…
