Lake Russell Fishing Report – October 2017

GON Staff | September 28, 2017

Russell: Level: 0.6 feet low. Temp: 75-78 degrees. Clarity: The main lake is mostly clear with some stain in the creeks.

Bass: Slow. Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing has been good for numbers with a few big fish mixed in. The water temperature has been up and down the last couple weeks, and the lake seems to be turning over in some areas. In the clear water, most of the fish are being caught in 15 to 25 feet of water on Carolina-rigged Zoom Finesse worms and a drop shot with a Zoom Z-drop or a Swamp Crawler. For the bigger largemouth, you can fish buzzbaits or small crankbaits around wood and rocks early, especially if you see baitfish around. This time of year, some sections of the lake will be better than others, and this will change weekly, so move around until you locate active fish.”
