Corps To Host Dove Hunts At Lake Russell

Registration ends on Sept. 20 for youth and general hunts on two Elbert County fields and one field in South Carolina.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Richard B. Russell Project, will host dove hunts for youth and the general public on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 2024, at two fields in Elbert County, and one field in Abbeville County, South Carolina.

Youth and public hunts will begin at 2 p.m. The youth hunts start at the project managers office at 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, GA, and the general public hunts start at the respective dove fields. All dove hunts will end at sunset.

Youth hunters must be 16 years of age or less and accompanied by a parent or guardian at least 18 years of age. In accordance with Georgia Hunting regulations, the parent or guardian must be a licensed hunter and will be permitted to hunt along with the youth hunter. All youth hunts are limited to a maximum of seven youth hunters. Youth hunters will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The general public hunts take place at the Middleton Church Road Dove Field in Elberton, where there they will be limited to a maximum of 14 hunters per day. The other general public hunt is at the Highway 72 Dove Field in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, and it will be limited to a maximum of eight hunters per day.

All hunters must register before close of business Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, by emailing Chris Nelson at [email protected] or calling 706.213.3408. Each hunter will receive an email or phone call if they are selected for the hunt. For additional information, please contact Chris Nelson.

All Georgia and South Carolina state regulations including license requirements will be enforced.
