Lake Russell Fishing Report May 2017

GON Staff | April 26, 2017

Russell: Level: Full. Temp: Mid 70s. Clarity: Clear on the main lake, stained in the creeks.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing has been good and should continue to get better this month. The blueback herring are spawning, and the bass are feeding on them, especially early in the mornings. Most of the fish are concentrated on shallow points and rocks and can be caught on a variety of lures. I like to start out fishing topwater and flukes covering as much water as possible to catch them while they feed on the bluebacks. The bass are roaming the main lake and secondary points, so after the morning bite slows, I like to fish Zoom lizards and worms on a Carolina rig. As the water begins to warm up this month, the bass will begin to transition on the deeper points and humps and a drop shot will catch numbers of fish.”
