Lake Russell Fishing Report May 2011

GON Staff | April 27, 2011

Russell: Level: 0.1 feet below full pool. Temp: 65-72. Clarity: Clear for the most part, but up Beaverdam has some stain.

Bass: Trad Whaley said the bass fishing is not very good right now (April 25). The biggest wave of bedded bass were up shallow at presstime, and there will be a period of postspawn funk for a little while. However, he’s looking for some improved fishing to begin the first of May and last for a while. With the bass seemingly behind schedule this year, Trad expects the traditional topwater bite to last into June. He’ll be running points and shoals and throwing flukes, Spooks and swimbaits. Look for herring to be spawning in these areas. In late April, the only herring Trad could find in good numbers were around bridge pilings. He also said a Trick Worm was catching a bunch of fish at the end of April but nothing that would amount to a good tournament bag. This should change.
