Lake Russell Fishing Report – March 2023

GON Staff | March 1, 2023

Russell: Level: Full pool. Temp: 58-62 degrees. Clarity: Clear.
Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The unseasonably hot weather has really warmed the water up, and the fishing is on fire. This time of year, you can catch bass in 20 feet of water or 2 feet of water, and the biggest fish of the year are usually caught now. For the deeper, prespawn bass, I like to fish a jig, shaky head or a Carolina-rigged Zoom Lizard on main lake and secondary points leading into spawning areas. On the shallow fishing, there are several options, but spawning pockets and creeks can be good using crankbaits, jerkbaits, ChatterBaits and spinnerbaits. If the weather stays stable, the fish will be biting somewhere, and if you don’t go, you will miss a chance for catching a giant.”
