Lake Russell Fishing Report – June 2008

GON Staff | May 27, 2008

Russell: Level: Down 1.4 feet below full pool. Temp: 70-72 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: There are some herring on the rip-rap rocks in the Hwy 72 area. First thing in the morning, try topwater like a Sammy or Rico, and if they won’t hit on top, throw a white spinnerbait. During the day, concentrate near the ends of main-lake points with Carolina-rigged worms and crankbaits. There are some bass in the standing timber — try spinnerbaits or Texas-rigged worms.

Catfish:
Excellent. Charlie Dowis said there are a lot of fish on the rip-rap. The herring are spawning, and Charlie said the catfish may be spawning already too. “We caught 18 last Friday on live herring and cut herring,” he said. Charlie said you can freeline live herring, or fish live or cut herring 2 to 3 feet under a cork over the rocks.
