Lake Russell Fishing Report July 2015

GON Staff | June 25, 2015

Russell: Level: 0.3 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 80s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing has still been tougher on Russell than the surrounding lakes for some reason. You can still catch spotted bass in 15 to 20 feet of water, they just tend to be smaller and less aggressive than usual. We have started catching a few largemouth as the water has warmed up and pushed more fish onto the deeper drops around points and timber. As always, you can catch numbers on a drop shot, but for the bigger bass we are having to go to jigs, Texas rigs and Carolina-rigged worms. As we go into July, I typically see a little topwater activity late in the evenings as the bass start busting baitfish suspended along the thermocline.”
