Lake Russell Fishing Report January 2013

GON Staff | January 3, 2013

Russell: Level: 3.7 feet below full pool. Temp: 55 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Excellent. Tournament angler Kerry Partain said the lake is fishing good for numbers right now but not size. Fish are killing a drop-shot worm, either a Meat Head or the new Zoom Z-drop worm. Fish are in the ditches in the pockets in 30-40 feet of water. Kerry prefers areas without timber because he’ll also jig a spoon in these areas. As you go into a pocket or creek with a ditch, look for bass on the graph, and start fishing. A Blade Runner and the Alabama Rig will be working when it gets colder this month. Focus in Beaverdam and from Coldwater Creek to the dam.
