Lake Russell Fishing Report – January 2008

GON Staff | January 3, 2008

Russell: Level: 1.9 feet below full pool. Temp: 51-53 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Good. Terry Johnson said the bass are late, but they’re just starting to set up on their wintertime pattern, which typically produces a consistent deep-water bite for quality bass. “It’s a good time for spoons, and the Blade Runner bite is just now starting,” Terry said. He also recommends a shaky-head jig with a finesse worm. “Most of these fish will be caught in 30-foot range or a little deeper. Fish the cuts and draws on the south end of the lake. The bite on Russell in January, February, March — that’s the best time for those 3- to 4-pounders. They lock in on it,” Terry said.
