Lake Russell Fishing Report December 2014

GON Staff | November 25, 2014

Russell: Level: 2 feet below full pool. Temp: 53-56 degrees.

Bass: Kerry Partain reports, “The spotted bass on Russell are absolutely gorging themselves on shad right now, and December should be one of the best months to catch them. There are a lot of gulls and loons starting to show up, so always keep an eye out for them. They can take some of the guess work out, and you can load the boat quick in the right areas at the right time. Most of the bait and bass seem to be in 25 to 30 feet of water in the pockets and on points in the creeks. Some of the bass we are catching right now are right on the bottom, so keep a close eye on your electronics. Once I mark bait or fish on my Lowrance, I will use a drop shot or a jigging spoon and see which one the bass want, because it changes throughout the day. You can also catch some bigger bass this time of year on a jig and a Fish Head Spin with a Zoom Fluke. As the water cools more in December, I will concentrate more on the jigging spoon, especially in the smaller creeks.”
