Lake Russell Fishing Report – December 2009

GON Staff | November 25, 2009

Russell: Level: 2.4 feet below full pool. Temp: Low to mid 60s. Clarity: Mostly clear.

Bass: Good for numbers. Josh Fowler said the numbers were good at a recent Royston Bass Club event, but the tournament was won with just 8 pounds of mostly spotted bass. Josh suggested concentrating on deep-water roadbeds in the creeks in 25 to 40 feet of water. Vertical fish with either a spoon or a drop shot. Josh likes either a Meathead worm in watermelon red or a finesse worm in seedless watermelon for the drop shot. Also, look on the creek-channel bends on the points with a jig. Josh likes either a green-pumpkin Buckeye Lures Mop Jig or football-head jig. Green pumpkin or crawfish colors are good one to try. Work your jig across the bottom from 15 feet all the way out to 35 feet. Josh said you might also be able to catch some fish shallow with Bandit 200 series crankbait.
