Lake Russell Fishing Report – August 2022

GON Staff | July 28, 2022

Russell: Level: 2 feet below full. Temp: Mid 80s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing at Lake Russell is still good with a few big fish being caught late in the evenings. Right now it’s all about baitfish and water quality, so when you find the right ingredients in 15 to 25 feet, the fish should be there biting. The majority of the bass are on deep points, humps and timber on the main lake and major creeks. Once you locate the bait and bass with your Lowrance electronics, you can catch them on a variety of lures, like a drop-shot finesse worm, Carolina-rigged Trick Worm, Zoom Mag Finesse Worm on a shaky head, or my favorite late in the evenings is a Texas-rigged Zoom Ole Monster worm. This time of year if you ain’t getting bit, you might as well move, plus that will keep you cooled off during this summer heat.”
