Lake Russell Fishing Report – August 2017

GON Staff | August 2, 2017

Russell: Level: 2.1 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 90s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The water level has dropped a couple of feet, and the water temperature has climbed into the 90s, so the fishing has been tougher than usual. We have been catching some big largemouth during the evenings, but it is very sporadic. For numbers of fish, we have been staying out on the main-lake points and creek channels using drop shots and jigs worked very slow. The key this time of year is using good electronics to find the baitfish and using finesse baits to get as many bites as possible. Typically, August is one of the tougher months to fish on Russell, so small baits worked slow is the way to go, especially in the day.”
