Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – April 2025

GON Staff | March 26, 2025

Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 66 degrees. Clarity: Heavy stain.

Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “As we head into the month of April, the bass spawn is in full effect. I expect the majority of the big females and males (fry guarders) to be shallow all month long. The first two weeks of this month should have spawning activity all over the lake. You can target the bed fish with a Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog or any kind of Texas-rigged creature bait of your choice. I really like something white or lighter colored so I can see it when the bass pick it up. When you’re not bed fishing, I’d be throwing a dark-colored Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm under docks and at the bases of cypress trees, especially on really sunny days. If we have some clouds and a little bit of wind, a double willowleaf bladed spinnerbait around these same areas should get you some quality bites. Toward the end of April, I expect the shad spawn to crank up pretty hard, and I’ll be throwing a white Spro popping-style frog for the first hour or so every morning around grass edges. Look for shad flickering around the edge of grass and seawalls first thing in the morning. April can be a lot of fun on Blackshear.”

Crappie: Cory Singletary, with C&S Guide Service, reports, “As the water temp continues to rise and the days have gotten longer, crappie are finishing up the spawn. I would target docks, cypress trees and shallow flats with brush. Crappie will start to school back up, and you can really start to catch a big mess after they have laid. I’ll be using Litewire Hooks and ATX baits. Color will depend on the water clarity. Flint River Outdoors has all your tackle needs.”
