Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – June 2025
GON Staff | May 28, 2025
Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 79 degrees. Clarity: Heavy stain.
Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “Bass fishing on Blackshear right now has been fairly consistent. The early morning topwater bite has been better than average in my opinion. I’ve been having a lot of luck with a white buzzbait and a white popping frog around grass edges and lily pads. You just have to see what they prefer because it changes day to day. The shad spawn is pretty much over with, but I’m still having a lot of success throwing topwater early. The fish are heading toward deeper water with a long, hot summer ahead of us. Try finding deeper brush and channel swings for offshore schools of bass. I like to target these fish with a Carolina-rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hog or a Zoom 4-inch Lizard. As we get deeper into June, the offshore bite should only get better and better. Shallow fish can still be caught under grass mats and lily pads up the river. Target these fish using a 1-oz. tungsten weight and a creature bait, like a Missile Baits D Bomb or a Strike King Rage Bug. If the river is high and muddy, don’t let it deter you. They seem to be more aggressive in the dirty water. Good luck!”

Crappie: Cory Singletary, with C&S Guide Service, reports that the crappie have been on the move, pushing out to deeper brushpiles and standing timber. You can target these fish with ATX jigs, the smaller the better for the finicky summer bite. To beat the heat, Cory says the dock-light fishing at night has been really good lately and should be good throughout June. Bridges have also been producing at night, as well.”
