Tournament Reports: May 2025

Above: Winners of April 12-13 Catfish Legends tournament on the Altamaha River was the team of Reel Time Katfishin, represented by Todd Davis and Hunter Pritchard. They had first place and big fish. The juniors big-fish winner as Thomas Turlington (below).

Jason Cheek and Matt Ferman won the April 5 Berry’s tournament on Lake Sinclair with an impressive sack of 21.04 pounds.

Richard Carey had big fish in the ABA-AFT 72 event on April 19 at Oconee with a 5.40-pounder.

TEC Championship Held At Juliette

The 2025 Georgia Bass TEC (Total Electric Championship) was held Feb. 22, 2025 at Lake Juliette. Nine clubs had their top-four anglers from their previous year to compete for the opportunity to earn the State Champion title. The state champions were Merrick McClure and Nate Ruis (pictured above).

At the time of the event, a cold front had dropped the water temperature down—it was in the high 40s to low 50s. Fish were hugging the bottom of the lake. Merrick and Nate said that all but two of their fish were viewed with their Lowrance Active Target flickering on the bottom.

The Georgia 811 Big Fish that weighed 5.94 pounds was the first fish Merrick caught, and it came off a blade bait in a natural shad color. Nate’s fish came off a wacky-rigged worm. Fish were caught as shallow as 2 feet, as well as out to 18 feet deep. Fish were very close to staging up for the spawn. Most fish were caught on main-lake points and staging flats for spawning.

Merrick said that he forgot to contact GON to announce the winners for the 2024 Georgia Bass TEC, which was held at Lake Russell  on April 27, 2024. The winners were Johnithan Combee and TJ Spivey (pictured below), who had 15.75 pounds.
