Wild In The Kitchen: Wild Turkey Stew Comfort Food

Mike Bolton | March 1, 2021

It can be downright chilly at the start of the turkey season, and that’s when most turkeys are taken. Why then not whip up a turkey stew that the whole family will enjoy on a chilly evening?

1/2 wild turkey, shredded

4 red potatoes, quartered

1/4 stick butter

1 large onion, diced

4 tbsp. garlic salt

8 mushrooms, chopped

1/4 cup flour

4 cups chicken broth

5 celery ribs, chopped

5 carrots, scraped and sliced

1 tbsp. poultry seasoning

Salt and black pepper

1 cup milk

Melt butter in a large pot. Add the diced onion and soften.

Add garlic salt, mushrooms, poultry seasoning and cook until mushrooms wilt. Stir in flour and cook two to three minutes. Slowly pour in broth, continually stirring. Add celery, carrots and potatoes.

Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Stir in milk and add water if need. Add salt, pepper and turkey. Cover and simmer 30 to 40 minutes until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Should be served over rice.
