One Truck-Buck scoring event is under our belts, and another is coming right up. Official results can’t be determined until we score racks tomorrow, Feb. 28, in Madison. As quickly as possible, Truck-Buck results will be posted at www.gon.com. Results will also appear in the April issue of GON.
Any hunter with a buck entered in this season’s contest can still have the rack officially scored in Madison on Feb. 28. Racks can be dropped off from 9 a.m. until noon. No racks will be accepted after the noon deadline. We expect to begin giving racks back, those that are completed, no sooner than 12:30 p.m. We expect all racks to be completed no later than 3 p.m.
It is impossible to give racks back in any order based on when they were dropped off, so the first one there Saturday morning won’t be the first one getting a rack back. We can’t accommodate special circumstances and usher a rack through the process more quickly. The Madison scoring event is always more busy, so plan on it taking most of the day.
No mounted heads! We barely have enough room for all the racks with just skull plates. We’re not trying to be difficult, it simply would require a huge building to accommodate almost 200 mounted deer heads.
We will measure velvet racks this year; however, if a velvet rack wins a scoring period, and it might not win without the velvet, it will be required that the velvet be stripped and the rack re-scored before winning a scoring period.
Entrants are not required to deliver or retrieve their racks in person. However, if the person retrieving the rack is someone other than the entrant, they must show their picture ID and a letter signed by the entrant saying who is picking up the rack. Everyone picking up a rack will be asked to show photo ID.
Directions to GON’s Madison Office: From I-20 take the Madison/Hwy 441 exit 114, and go south 6 miles. Turn left at Seven Islands Road. From the south, take Hwy 441 north out of Eatonton. Seven Islands Road will be on your right across from the old Joe’s BBQ convenience store. GON is less than 1 mile down Seven Islands Road on the left at the intersection of Bethany Church Road.
