Truck-Buck Scoring Results 2023-2024 Season

GON Staff | April 5, 2024

A high number of bucks—more than 200—from last season’s Truck-Buck and Youth Big Buck contests were recently officially measured, and we have the official results. The hunters in line to make the prestigious trip to the Ag-Pro GON Outdoor Blast the last weekend in July for the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out and Youth Big-Buck Contest Shoot-Out.

The hunters in the No. 1 spots for a scoring period or wildcard will be contacted by GON to get their invitations to the Shoot-Out. In the Truck-Buck contest, there’s a winner each week and in four wildcard categories for a total of 21 spots in the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out… unless there’s a tie… and we have an exact tie in Week 1. So, this year’s Shoot-Out will have 22 contestants. In the Youth Contest, there’s a winner each week of the season.

The Truck-Buck Shoot-Out is a pellet-rifle competition to decide who wins a brand-new pickup truck from contest sponsor John Megel Chevrolet. Again for this year’s Shoot-Out, the second-best shot in the competition goes home with a Firminator G-3 food-plot implement by Ranew’s Outdoor Equipment.

The five weekly winners during archery season earn a Mathews Phase4 29 bow (retail value $1,199), a CVA Optima muzzleloader (retail value $1,094) during the Week 6 primitive-weapons/youth season, and the 11 winners during firearms season each earn a Savage Storm 110 deer rifle (retail value $959). Truck-Buck weekly winners also receive an HSS safety harness, and an assortment of deer attractant and deer minerals from 4S Wildlife. The coveted Shoot-Out shirts for all Truck-Buck and Youth Big-Buck Contest contestants are again possible thanks to our friends at Realtree.

The four wildcard winners in the Truck-Buck contest earn prize packages that include Shoot-Out jerseys from Realtree, a $250 gift certificate from AgriSupply, a Rugged Road Outdoors 30 can cooler, an HSS safety harness, and an assortment of deer attractant and deer minerals from 4S Wildlife.

In addition, GON also conducts the separate contest for kids, the Youth Big-Buck Contest, with weekly qualifiers for their own Shoot-Out. There is one youth-contest winner per week, and those kids compete in a BB rifle Shoot-Out for a $3,000 shopping spree at Adventure Outdoors and a weekend hunting trip to Woods-N-Water. Each weekly youth winner—all 17 weeks of Georgia’s deer season—also earns a personalized Shoot-Out jersey from Realtree, a cooler from Rugged Road Outdoors, plus an awesome LockedOn 360 Mobile Gun Vise—a super tool for safe and more effective hunting for all ages, but especially kids.

The GON contests are determined after the official scoring of racks done by certified Boone & Crockett measurers using the Boone & Crockett/Pope & Young system. Scores are B&C/P&Y net. To compare typical versus non-typical racks, divide the net scores into the minimums for B&C all-time record books; 170 for typicals and 195 for non-typicals. The higher percentage ranks higher. This same system for comparing and rating typicals vs. nontypicals applies to the Georgia Deer Records and County-by-County rankings.
