Come to Macon For A Ball At The GON Blast
Vendors, Backyard BBQ, Kids' Events, the GON Shoot-Out and more!
Brad Bailey | August 1, 2008
To have a ball and to get yourself psyched up for the upcoming hunting season, come to Macon Aug. 8-10 for GON’s second-annual Outdoor Blast.
This sportsman’s show will feature only hunting- and fishing-related vendors and events for kids and adults.
Centerpiece to the show is the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out, the air-rifle competition to determine the winner of the 2007-08 big-buck contest. You can sit in air-conditioned comfort as competitors sweat out breaking targets that lead to a brand new pickup.
You’ll have a chance to sample some of the best barbecue you ever tasted during the Backyard BBQ Blast held in conjunction with the show. If you like archery competition, bring your bow and participate in the Georgia Bowhunter Classic, a 3-D contest put on by the guys who produce the Southern Woods and Waters TV show.
Kids are again an emphasis, and there will be lots for them to do including shooting bows and arrow, Airsoft guns, shooting and fishing simulators, a racing simulator and a huge slide.
If you like to see large antlers, we will have some of the biggest on display from the Truck-Buck Contest, including the new Georgia state-record non-typical taken in Fulton County by Jay Maxwell, which is featured on the cover.
Admission is $4 for adults. Kids under 12 enter free. You can receive a $2 discount for bringing a canned meat donation. In conjunction with the kick-off of the GONetwork’s new statewide deer-donation program, the Sportsman’s Pantry, donations of a canned meat (tuna, canned beef, chicken, turkey, etc.) will get you a $2 discount on the $4 admission to the Blast. All the canned meat collected at the Blast will go straight to the Food Bank program in the Macon area to help feed the needy.
Blast show hours are:
Friday, Aug. 8: 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 9: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 10: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Macon Centreplex is located at I-16 and Coliseum Drive. For information, call GON at (800) 438-4663.
