The 2024 GON Ag-Pro Outdoor Blast is in the books, and so is the Pistol Creek Outdoors sponsored Yonah Invitational Grand National Qualifier turkey calling contest. This marked the fourth year for the NWTF sanctioned event, and it was nothing short of spectacular.

The event has gone from one that was filled with hope of getting it off the ground to excitement and belief that it is here to stay. Each year, callers from Georgia and surrounding states arrive in hopes of taking home a championship, and there are a lot of great callers in each division. Honestly, there are several in the running to win every year in each division.

The event was filled with an All-Star cast of judging, including two past NWTF Grand National winners, Terry Rohm, the head of the judging panel, and Dave Owens. The event was emceed by another former NWTF Grand National winner, Joe Drake.

The divisions have always been Poult, Junior, Hunter, Friction and Open. Gobbling and Owling Divisions are a huge draw, as well.

New this year was the addition of a Trumpet/Wing Bone Division.

Alex DeBord, of Talk About It Outdoors, had the idea of adding this division to the event this year, and from the level of excitement it generated, it will be included from this point forward. This division alone saw 14 contestants compete for the title. Kerry Terrell, of The KT Team, took first in the new division.

To help celebrate the new division, trophies for the division were made by Alex and his wife.

In addition, the first-place winner in the new division received a trumpet call made by Kevin Dorsey, the first runner-up received a wing bone made by Jeremy Crowe, of Crowe’s Custom Calls, and the second runner-up received a wing bone made by Tyler Bishop, of Hickory Log Custom Calls.

The Yonah Invitational qualified two callers for the 2025 NWTF Grand National event in Nashville in February. Lane Roche qualified in the Open Division, and Caleb Cudd qualified in the Friction Division.

The future looks bright for the Yonah Invitational, and continued growth is expected.

It takes a lot of work and dedication from a lot of people to pull these events off, and we at Pistol Creek are grateful to all of them and to GON for hosting the event.
