Lake Russell Fishing Reports – March 2021

GON Staff | February 25, 2021

Russell: Level: Full pool. Temp: 50 degrees. Clarity: Clear on the main lake and stained in the creeks.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing has been good the last few weeks and should continue to get better with warmer weather. Most of the bass are being caught on main-lake points and pockets or ditches toward the mouth of the creeks. The best baits right now are Alabama rigs, Blade Runners with a Zoom Fluke, shaky heads and jigs.  With so much stained water, if we get some sunshine and warmer days, the fish should move shallow in the creeks and on secondary points off the main lake staging to spawn. Once the water warms up in March and temperatures get above 55 degrees, fish will move up shallower on secondary points and into spawning areas. When this happens, a Zoom lizard or Baby Brush Hog is good on both Texas and Carolina rigs. The creeks will also start to heat up in March, and this is when a crankbait, ChatterBait or a spinnerbait will be a good way to catch some big largemouth.”
