Lake Russell Fishing Report – February 2022

GON Staff | January 28, 2022

Russell: Level: 0.2 feet below 475. Temp: Lower 50s and dropping. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The water is finally cooling off on all the lakes and is closer to normal for this time of year. The bass are really starting to bunch up with the baitfish and are feeding heavily a couple of times throughout the day. We are catching most of the fish in 30 to 50 feet of water on drop shots and jigging spoons. The key right now is to find the bait with your electronics and then look for active schools of bass around them. There are also a lot of loons and gulls on the lake, so when you see them actively feeding, you can catch some bigger fish throwing the Alabama Rig around them. As we head into February, the fishing really depends on the weather patterns. If we get several days of warm weather, the fish will begin to migrate to the ditches leading into spawning areas. If it stays cold, expect the fish to hang around the deeper water, especially in areas with timber and bait.”
