Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – December 2006

GON Staff | November 22, 2006

Eufaula: Level: 0.5 feet below full pool. Temp: 55-59 degrees. Clarity: Slightly stained.

Bass:
Fair. The last few cold fronts have pushed the fish deep, and Jay Grogan is catching most of his fish on spoons right now. “Most everything has gotten down to spooning right now,” Jay said. “It was pretty hot two weeks ago, but it has slowed down since the water cooled off.” Concentrating on creek channels, he is catching hybrids and largemouths between two and four pounds on a 3/4-oz. Hopkins spoon in gold or silver in 18 to 22 feet of water. He mentioned the Cowikee Creek area as a potential spooning hotspot through the winter months. “Once the bait pushes down and stays there when the water gets to the low 50s, the bite will get better,” he said. Right now, there are still a few fish shallow, and Jay said flipping a 3/8-oz. black-and-blue jig around grassbeds on the lake points can still produce a few better fish.
