Lake Blackshear Fishing Report May 2013

GON Staff | May 1, 2013

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: High 60s to low 70s. Clarity: Stained.

Crappie: Good. Guide Rusty Parker reports, “I have been shooting docks for the past three weeks and have had excellent luck. I was able to limit out three times on just two shallow-water docks using the chartreuse/pink/chartreuse R.A.G. Fly jig. In my opinion, most of the crappie here have spawned out, and they should all be just about spawned out in about a week. Pecan Slough, Cedar Creek and Swift Creek are still producing some slabs. I also saw some great catches coming from the upper end of the lake. Also some reports of catching some postspawn crappie in 15 feet of water pushing minnows.”

Bream: Very good. “Bream have just started to bed. The shellcrackers are beginning to bed, and the bluegill should be going on bed by mid May,” Rusty said.
