Lake Russell Fishing Report October 2014

Russell: Level: 1 foot below full pool. Temp: Low 70s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Good. Tournament fisherman Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing is really starting to pick up, and I expect it to improve as the water continues to cool. You can catch a lot of spots on the drop shot and shaky head around points and humps in 20 to 25 feet of water. Right now you can catch a few largemouth around brush and timber on the points using a Carolina-rigged Zoom lizard or worm. The bass seem to be feeding heavy on the smaller shad, so if you are not getting many bites, downsize your bait, and switch up colors until you find something that works, especially if you are seeing fish on your electronics. There are still a lot of fish on the main-lake points, but the creeks should really turn on the next few weeks, so move around until you see some activity. As we progress into fall, the shad should really begin to bunch up, and the fishing should only improve. As the shad move back into the creeks, I will throw a crankbait around rocks and wood looking for some of the bigger fish.”
