Lake Russell Fishing Report – March 2020

GON Staff | February 27, 2020

Russell: Level: 3 feet above full. Temp: 52-55 degrees. Clarity: Most of the lake is stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Kerry Partain reports, “The bass fishing has been pretty consistent considering the weather has been all over the place here lately. We having been catching most of our fish in main-lake pockets and ditches toward the mouths of the creeks on shaky heads, jigs and a drop shot. With so much stained water, fish should move shallow in the creeks and onto main lake and secondary points staging to spawn if we can ever get some sunshine and warmer days. Once the fish move shallow, you can catch a lot of bass with a Carolina-rigged lizard on secondary points leading into spawning pockets. The creeks will also start to heat up in March, and a crankbait or a spinnerbait will be a good way to catch some big largemouth.”
