The Advantages Of A Good Cultipacker
Press Release | May 13, 2022
Building food plots requires a considerable investment of time, money, and effort. However, land managers need to take the proper steps to maximize that investment; otherwise, it might be squandered. Site conditions, seed selection, and the appropriate application of soil nutrients are all important, but good germination rates won’t be realized without optimal seed-to-soil contact. Firminator’s built-in Cultipacker offers several advantages to ensure better germination rates and, therefore, a better return on investment.
Different soil conditions and seed selections call for different treatments. With simple top link length adjustments, the Firminator’s main pitch can be changed, so the implement leans more or less heavily onto its disk assembly for deeper or shallower cuts. This also allows the cultipacker to roll on the soil with additional frame weight being transferred to it so it can pass over the field to firm up the seedbed before planting small seeds. A mid-range setting gives varying degrees of disk depth, simultaneously allowing the built-in cultipacker to maintain good ground contact and break apart clods while leveling and firming the soil.
Unlike conventional, single-application implements, the all-in-one configuration of the Firminator allows for firming the soil during the seeding pass so seed is dropped directly in front of the packer wheel, where it is pressed into the soil surface for superior time- and money-saving seed-to-soil contact.
The standard Firminator G3 and integrated cultipacker are adequate for most conditions. However, Ranew’s Outdoor Equipment also offers a Pro Grade Cultipacker Upgrade. Its larger, 16-inch wheels will easily roll over looser sandy or fine silty soils that tend to flow up and over a smaller wheel. The larger wheels also add weight and surface area to allow the accurate seeding system to function properly in all soil types.
They also make a Heavy Duty Stand-Alone Cultipacker in a standard 6-foot model featuring 9″ heavy-duty cast-iron cultipacker wheels, high-speed greaseable bearings, and category 1 and 2 hitch pins; and a professional model with upgraded 16-inch cast-iron cultipacker wheels to create the best seed to soil contact possible. Both models are built with the same heavy 3-inch square tubing as the Firminator’s frames and come in 6, 8, and 10-foot widths, with almost any custom width available.
