The 25th annual Truck-Buck Shoot-Out saw what may have been the most accurate field of shooters in the history of the event. Seven shooters made it to the seventh round and shot at the egg from 60 feet.
In the end, it was Scott Fox who took home the grand-prize truck. Scott’s cheering section, easily the largest among the Shoot-Out contestants, celebrated the win with Scott.
Of the seven shooters who made it to Round 7, three busted the egg to stay in the hunt for one of the two grand prizes, a truck or 4-wheeler. Joining Scott were Frank Vaughn, of Kennesaw, a bowhunter who has nine Pope & Young bucks from Georgia, and 15-year-old Will Mitchell, of Martin. Will had already won the Youth Big-Buck Contest Shoot-Out on Friday evening (see page 48).
First up in Round 8 was Frank, who barely missed. Will followed, and he also missed, opening the door for Scott’s winning shot.
Frank and Will then shot for the 4-wheeler. Will hit the egg to win the second grand prize, a 4-wheeler from Mountain Motorsports.
GON’s Truck-Buck Shoot-Out was held Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27 during the Outdoor Blast at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. On Saturday, there were heads-up, one-against-one matches between Northern Zone vs. Southern Zone winners from each week of last deer season and in four wildcard categories. The winners of the Saturday heads-up matches moved on to Sunday’s finals for a chance at the truck and 4-wheeler. The heads-up winners for the 17 weeks of deer season also earned either a Mathews bow, a CVA muzzleloader or a Browning deer rifle. We’re working on uploading a video of the Shoot-Out. Check our website next week.
Another year of Truck-Buck begins on opening day of archery season. GON and John Megel Chevrolet will again hand over the keys to a new truck for the 26th time. Turn to page 76 for more information, or visit www.gon.com.
