Lake Eufaula
Lake Eufaula, also known as Walter F. George Lake, named for the United States Senator from Georgia, is formed on the Chattahoochee River along the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Eufaula has long been a great fishing lake, especially for largemouth bass. The town of Eufaula, Ala. is home to Mann's Bait Company and Humminbird Electronics. The 46,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake extends north about 85 miles from the Walter F. George Lock and Dam and has approximately 640 miles of shoreline.

Eufaula: Level: Full at 188. Temp: 72 degrees. Clarity: Perfect stain. Bass: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “The bass are still transitioning to their winter pattern. The warmer-than-normal fall temperatures have held them back a little. The first drops on the river ledge is where a lot of them are being caught. Shaky heads with Trick Worms in blue/black are a great choice. Where you find trashpiles in the deeper water, fish lipless crankbaits and lipped cranks geared to the depth of where the bass are also working. Where you find shore cover and pads, the spinnerbaits and frogs are getting some attention.” Multiple Species: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “The crappie are still holding on the natural and man-made structure in 10 to 20 feet of water. Minnows and minnow-tipped jigs are getting a good mess for the supper table. Bluegill…

As the boat glided to a stop, Larry Kennedy started setting rods in the rod holders near the bow. “You can put those four in the holders on the stern,” he said as he pointed to lightweight spinning rods near the rear seat. “We’ll start out trolling first and see if we can pick up…
At about 4:40 p.m. the tip of one of the fishing rods I was watching just barely quivered. Exactly 25 feet below the boat, in the shadow of the sunken old Hwy 39 bridge, something was trying to decide if a minnow was on its menu. I picked up the rod, keeping a close watch…
Our second bass of the day, a bass that would top two pounds, hit Wilbur’s Trick Worm as the worm slid through an open area in the grass. The fat bass, as dark green as a farm-pond fish, splashed across a salad of green weeds covering the water and into the net. “I love Eufaula…
In the July 2003 issue of GON, I reported on a new grass pattern that was taking place on Lake Eufaula. Fishermen seemed tickled to be able to find a daylight pattern during the summer in the back of a pocket that was nowhere near the main lake. During the hottest part of the day,…
March is a fantastic month for bass fishing in Georgia. The water is warming, bass are moving into a shallow, prespawn mode, and they are easy to catch. It would be hard to find a better lake than Eufaula to take advantage of this activity. Eufaula’s vast shallow flats are covered with grass, and they…
