Lake Jackson Fishing Report July 2011
GON Staff | June 29, 2011
Jackson: Level: 1.1 feet above full pool. Temp: 88-90 degrees. Clarity: Clear to lightly stained.
Bass: Fair, according to Aaron Batson, who won the last Friday night Berry’s tournament with a 10.98-lb. limit. “I had one good spot at 4.58 pounds,” Aaron said. “Fish are now strong on their summer holes. The channel swing under the powerlines and the hump at the mouth of Tussahaw Creek have both recently been hotspots. Several baits are working for the deeper fish, both spots and largemouths. Big crankbaits, like DD22s or Strike King 6 XDs, are working in the 16- to 18-foot range. On some days fish want a slower presentation. I like a 3/4-oz. Net Boy Baits football jig in green or brown colors. Tip the jig with a 4-inch Big Bite Baits Kriet Kreature in craw/orange color. For a more finesse bait, use a 1/4-oz. Net Boy Baits screwball jig head with a Big Bite Baits Squirrel Tail worm in watermelon or green-pumpkin color. Dipping either bait in JJ’s Magic will help increase bites and hook-up percentages. They just won’t let a bait go that has been dipped in JJ’s Magic. One other option for largemouths is to run up the Yellow or South rivers above the 36 bridges and fish a Buzzerbait 1/4-oz buzzbait around blowdowns and logjams early or late in the day. Some bites can be explosive, so use heavy line or braid to muscle these fish out of cover.”
