Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – August 2024

GON Staff | August 1, 2024

Eufaula: Level: 1.1 feet above 188. Temp: 89 degrees. Clarity: Slight stain.

Bass: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “Little Barbour, Grass Creek and other creeks farther north are holding good, shallow fish. With the water temperature over 85 degrees, the fish are lethargic and require a lot of finesse to aggravate a strike. Texas-rigged Trick Worms in pumpkin, watermelon and junebug colors have been great choices. Where the water is dirtier, use colors with red in them. Really slow presentations are the way to keep the bait in front of the bass. Dead sticking is the trick. Swim jigs with short creature baits in the same colors worked slow will also work. Grass banks are holding baitfish and also provide shade up in the day. Deeper bass are doing well on jigging spoons worked among the fish when you find them on your electronics. Carolina-rigged dark worms worked slowly through the deep grass will get a hit, also.”

Multiple Species: Capt. Sam Williams, of Hawks Fishing Guide Service, reports, “Crappie are beginning to scatter and act skittish. When you find the trashpiles, you can catch a few. When the bite stops, move to another spot and do the same thing. It takes a little work but some folks are coming in with fish. Minnows are still the bait of choice. Very small jigs are getting a few bites. The bluegill are on the banks where you can find blowdowns and overhangs. Wigglers and crickets will get you a good mess for the table. All the grassy areas mentioned above are also holding bluegill. Beetle Spins in black and chartreuse worked on the grass edges work, too. Catfish are holding in  deeper water  in the creeks where it is cooler. Jugs baited with shad or cutbait will work. Bottom fishermen will do well working the drop ledges in the creeks with the same bait or nightcrawlers. This hot weather seems to be set in on us for a while. Keep plenty of water and sunscreen with you. Watch the thunder heads and remember that lightning is really dangerous on the water. It is still a good time to get your youngsters on the water and make those lasting memories before school starts. Look into starting a school fishing club where your kids attend. This is one sport where boys and girls can compete. A lot of the times, the girls are more patient and actually do better. Pray for our heroes in uniform and their families as they go out each day to protect us. Pray for one another. Jesus says for us to love one another as we love ourselves.”
