Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – September 2024
GON Staff | August 28, 2024
Blackshear: Level: Full at 237. Temp: 83 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.
Bass: Tournament angler Chris Gray reports, “As I write this fishing report, we’re experiencing our first ‘false fall’ of the year. Air temperatures have dipped into the low 60s at night with relatively low humidity. It won’t last long though, as the forecast for Labor Day weekend has the temps right back up near 100 degrees. This will continue to make the bass fishing on Lake Blackshear pretty slow for the time being. As the month of September rolls on, I expect the fishing to gradually improve. One of my favorite patterns in September is a white-and-chartreuse spinnerbait or ChatterBait fished around grass and blowdowns. I like one silver blade and one gold blade on the spinnerbait. A buzzbait in the morning will also trigger some quality topwater fish. Expect the topwater bite to get better and better the closer we get to October. Start looking for schooling activity near the mouths of Boy Scout Slough, Cedar Creek and Spring Creek. Once you start seeing schooling fish, cast a chrome lipless crankbait near the action and wait for the tug. A lot of times there will be largemouth bass, white bass and hybrid bass schooling together, so it’s the luck of the draw on which species you’ll hook up with. Keep the trolling motor on high and cover as much water as possible. Be safe and good luck!”
