June Kids’ Fishing Events Are Happening!
GON Outdoor Kids June 2020
Brad Gill | June 1, 2020
I’ve been behind this desk for two decades, and as long as I can remember, June was the month when most of the state’s Kids’ Fishing Events (KFEs) took place. I have been wondering what COVID-19 would do to these great events. While a number of these fishing outings have been canceled this summer, there are some still on the calendar for parents and kids to attend and catch a mess of fish.
“Kids Fishing Events scheduled for 2020 will proceed and are a great way for kids to enjoy some ‘fin-tastic’ fishing locations,” said Melissa Cummings, WRD’s communications and outreach specialist.
I was glad to get that email on Monday, May 18. However, all participants need to know that the events will come with changes.
“Participants to any event are expected to practice proper social distancing—at least 6 feet apart from others—and are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles/gear, as there will be limited on-site loaner equipment,” said Melissa. “At some facilities, the number of people allowed at one time may be limited to allow for proper distancing.”
The events listed below were on the WRD calendar at press time.
It’s worth a check to see if any have been added since then. Just go to https://license.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com/Event/Events.aspx.
