I Want To Go Pike Fishing!

Dear GON,

I enjoyed the article on redfin pike fishing by Glen Solomon very much. I grew up on a farm in Turner County pike fishing on Hat Creek and Little River. Mr. Pierce uses the same techniques we used 50 years ago to catch the pike. They are great fun to catch and excellent fish to eat, but watch for the bones.

I want to go pike fishing now!

Encouragement For Seniors

Dear GON,

After reading “Timely Letter From A GON Reader” on page 118 of the August issue of GON, I felt the need to encourage our senior citizens not to let age stop their love for the outdoors.

Mr. Moore stated that he was now 70 and his hunting and fishing days were gone. He also referred to himself as “this old man.”

I am now 77 years old and still climb 20 feet up a tree, sit from daylight until dark, primarily to bowhunt. I wade the streams of north Georgia with my fly rod, tie my own flies and enjoy the peace and beauty of the outdoors. I really don’t care if I see a deer or catch a fish. That would be a bonus.

Barring a life threatening illness, I plan to pursue my love of the outdoors until I die. Don’t let age stop you.

When we posted this picture on Instagram, folks said “Photoshopped!” Let us assure you, this didn’t feel much like a joke when GON intern Jordan Davis, of Eatonton, discovered the 2-foot-long copperhead under the GON water fountain.

River Rooster @Watkins257Dad tweeted on July 1:
“@GONMagazine almost stepped on this timber rattlesnake in my yard in Harrison, GA.”

Ethan Watkins messaged GON on July 27 with this photo. He said, “Big trout are biting in the Chattooga River on the South Carolina and Georgia border.”
