Letters To The Editor: March 2025
Reader Contributed | March 3, 2025

Austin Miller (left) and his brother Tommy, of Senoia, show off their successful fishing trip on Goat Rock Lake with Captain Ken Athon. Austin’s trophy catch weighed 61.25 pounds on a KastKing scale, which is just under the lake record for blue catfish. The group was happy to release the giant catfish to hopefully be caught again by a lucky angler.
Goat Rock Giant Caught & Released
Dear GON,
My name is Tommy and my brother and I are the guys in the story at GON.com about the big blue catfish that we caught and released at Goat Rock Lake a few weeks ago. We love the story you wrote on us.
My family has been following GON ever since I can remember. We were wondering if our picture would be posted in next month’s issue? Thank you so much for sharing our amazing day out on the water.
Tommy Scott, Senoia
Editor’s Note: Tommy, it’s humbling to know your family reads GON magazine. We’ve always hung our hats on the fact that parents can allow their kids to read GON and not worry about the content. It’s an honor to post your big catfish in the magazine. The full story can be read at GON.com/fishing/lake-record-size-goat-rock-blue-catfish-caught-on-video-and-released.
Remembering More Of Arthur Truelove
Dear GON,
I enjoyed reading Chuck Gray’s Letter to the Editor in last month’s edition “Remembering Arthur Truelove.”
I never got to hunt with Arthur or his best friend Jake Poole but got to know them pretty well from them coming to Marvin Bowdoin’s Grocery in Juliette.
They hunted Piedmont NWR a lot. On one of their trips they stopped at Bowdoin’s Grocery and found out that Piedmont had been burning their property and had burned their favorite part for turkey hunting.
It did not phase them. They simply got two big black plastic trash bags from Marvin to cover their hunting clothes. As I remember, Mr. Poole killed a turkey.
Several of us from Juliette went up to Commerce to visit Mr. Truelove in the nursing home before he passed away. I know turkeys down here are much happier with Mr. Poole and Mr. Truelove up there in the Happy Hunting Grounds.

GON Just Seems To Get Better & Better
Dear GON,
I have been a subscriber and reader of GON for many years and always have found numerous items of interest in every issue, but the last few volumes are different. Rather than having to scroll through to find something of interest, I am able to just start rendering—it is just filled with great stories, articles of interest and information that takes me several days to finish rather than doing it in 30 minutes.
Many thanks, keep it up!
W. Nick Kraus, Twin City
