Sign Up For GTA Annual Youth Trapping State Championship Field Trials

Brad Gill | November 16, 2023

Here’s the group from the 2022 GTA Youth Trapping State Championship Field Trials that took place Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 in Swainsboro. There were 28 kids who trapped 30 animals in just two nights.

It’s once again time to sign up for the Georgia Trappers Association Youth Trapping State Championship Field Trials.

The weekend format is simple. Kids and parents pair up with experienced trappers and spend two days on big chunks of private properties while kids get their feet wet in the art of trapping. Trap lines are run for two days.

This is a great way for kids to gain a pile of valuable trapping knowledge from those willing to pass on the great tradition. Kids will learn how to set DPs for coons and possums, foot-hold traps for the bigger predators, and in some cases, kids will experience beaver trapping. Below are the details.

Where: Emanuel County

When: Saturday, Dec. 30-Monday, Jan. 1

Time: Begins at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Dec. 30

Who: All youth under the age of 16 are invited to this event. No trapping experience or supplies required to attend, but bring what you have.

Cost: Free!

Sign-up Instructions: GTA is asking folks to use an Eventbright link to get free tickets to the event.
