First Georgia State Park Land Opened To Hunters

GON Staff | November 9, 1989

In a precedent-setting move, the first Georgia parks property has been opened to deer hunters. The Beaver Dam Creek marina site at Lake Richard B. Russell has been opened to archery-only deer hunting. The 350-acre tract located off Hwy 72 is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and leased to the Georgia Parks Division. The water-front property is the proposed site of an as-yet undeveloped marina.

The new archery-only area was opened Oct. 17 on a permit-only basis under state regs for Elbert County. Permits, maps and rules and regulations can be obtained from the Richard B. Russell Lake Natural Resource Management Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Permits are also available from rangers at Bobby Brown State Park.
